Believe, Achieve, Succeed

Whether you set goals this year or not, I’m guessing you have goals and dreams and they deserve to be realized. Today, let’s focus on the vital aspects of setting goals, believing in ourselves, and diligently working towards our dreams. Each new day can serve as a reminder that our aspirations are achievable with the right mindset and actions. I’m dedicated to inspiring you to chase your dreams and find deeper meaning in your life’s journey. (And I have resources to help with this, but more on that in a minute!)

I used to think I didn’t have “dreams” like other people because I grew up watching movies where someone just wants to make it to Broadway or open up their own fashion design business or do something big that they’d been singularly focused on their whole lives.

And that’s not how my goals looked.

I had goals like getting organized, surrounding myself with supportive people, and finding a career that I love (which I did, but I didn’t always know what it would be). Then I realized that these are important goals and dreams as well, and I went for them. And you can too, regardless of if you’ve realized your goals and dreams in the past. Now is the time to decide which goal to really go after, and here are some things to think about to get you going:

Research on Goals and Motivation:

  • Goal Setting and Achievement: According to researchers Locke and Latham, setting specific and challenging goals leads to higher performance. (Remember, there are ways to set goals with less stress!) Action: Define clear, attainable goals aligned with your dreams.
  • Self-Belief and Success: Bandura’s concept of self-efficacy emphasizes the importance of belief in one’s capabilities. Action: Cultivate a strong belief in your abilities and potential. You can do this by maintaining a “wins journal” where you track your daily achievements.
  • Finding Meaning: Viktor Frankl’s work highlights the importance of finding meaning in life for psychological well-being. Action: Reflect on what brings meaning and purpose to your life.
  • The Power of Visualization: Research shows that visualization can enhance motivation and performance. Action: Regularly visualize achieving your dreams, and they will come more automatically and with less effort.
  • Resilience in Pursuit of Goals: Studies by Angela Duckworth and others indicate that grit and perseverance are key to achieving long-term goals. Action: Remember that much of what separates the successful from the unsuccessful is just the amount of time the successful people stayed with their goal—they don’t give up until they succeed! You can do that too.

Now that you have a little extra research-based motivation, here are some simple steps to success that you can take right now:

  1. Write Down Your Dreams: Make them tangible by putting them on paper.
  2. Create a Step-by-Step Plan: Break your dream down into achievable steps.
  3. Cultivate Positive Affirmations: Reinforce self-belief with positive statements.
  4. Seek Inspiration: Surround yourself with stories and people that inspire you.
  5. Build a Support Network: Connect with those who encourage and support your aspirations.
  6. Learn and Grow: Acquire new skills and knowledge related to your dream.
  7. Practice Gratitude: Acknowledge and appreciate each step forward.
  8. Stay Flexible: Be open to adjusting your path as needed.
  9. Celebrate Progress: Recognize and celebrate small victories.
  10. Maintain a Growth Mindset: Embrace challenges as opportunities to grow.
